6. The snake rules

The whole world is in the power of the Evil One (1 John 5:19). The serpent, Satan of old, was cast out of paradise. He has been the ruler of the world ever since. Power and money are his companions. Man's sin is his desire. He carries Adam and Eve in his mouth, he wants to take them away from love, away from the red heart in the background. But the world and history are cross-marked. The white circle and the cross create the symbol of truth and eternal life, the Christian ring-cross. It heralds the death of the Serpent. The white color represents purity and truth in Hilma's paintings, black describes ignorance, sin and darkness.
