Man's inheritance became longing, longing back to God and Eden, to the unity of everything. To the naked innocence. Unity and equality prevailed in Eden, but it ended when the serpent and sin entered. God then decided that man would rule over woman, her role became that of childbearer. Adam became a farmer and patriarchy could begin. But God also offered love as the way back for Adam and Eve, the two would become one again. The St. Andrew's Cross, the symbol of the following Christ, is painted here in yellow and blue. For Hilma, man was represented by will and thought, woman by love and emotional life. Whenever these entities meet on our earth, love is consummated. Where the two diagonals of the painting meet, this is illustrated. The white circle, symbolizing the earth and eternity, forms the background.
