16. Carrying his cross
The way of man is to seek, with the help of the Spirit, truth and love, the white and red color of the cross. And to carry his cross, to endure the trials of life in the hope of resurrection, as Jesus suffered and rose again. The cross rests on a pedestal in the colors of the rainbow, the colors of promise. In the background, Adam and Eve hang on two black crosses, signifying that Jesus took all sin upon himself; he bore our sins in his own body when he died on the cross (1st Peter). Eve cries out against a yellow background, Adam against a blue one. Even though the Serpent will eventually sting Adam and Eve's heels, they know that Jesus has conquered death. The serpent shapes the spiral of time, his demise foretold since the beginning of time. The star of heaven with its twelve rays, like the rose and the lily that sprout from the ground, tells the viewer that there is hope and victory for Adam and Eve.
